Sabela Summer School

Sabela Summer School is an educational initiative devised by Butshilo Nleya as a pilot and research project focussing on equipping young people between 15-20 years old with creative thinking skills, performing arts skills, and business ethics and methodologies. The pilot will run during the iBumba International Festival 2009 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

“This is a school for young serious minds who are keen on developing within the arts. Young people will be drawn from existing new dance and theatre companies, inner city and boarding schools. It is also open to any young people who may not be actively in employment or in training but fulfil the criteria.”

The criteria are that they have to be 15-20 years old and have some competency in some of the following: dance, music, administration, drama, or technical arts aspects. There are 18 places of which 9 will be offered as paid places. The other 9 will be fully sponsored by the Sabela Foundation. Induction and audition will be held on 5th December 2009 at Stanley Square, Makokoba. School starts on 14 December till 18 December 2009 at 9 am promptly.

Culture Vibe Night

Culture Vibe night will be an explosion of music, dance, drumming, colour and magic. It is a fundraiser for the pilot of the Sabela Summer School in Zimbabwe. It will be held in Hemel Hempstead on Friday 13 November at 7pm.

The night is jam packed with:

Lounge drummers (Zim drumming troupe)
Tsungai Tsikirai (Afro/zim- soul sensation)
Takudzwa Mukiwa ( Mbira extraordinaire)
Butshilo Nleya (Drummerboy)
Tiffani Vinyard (Singer song writer)
Shaddy (Bellydancing princess)
SIYAYA (Headline act from Zimbabwe)

Doors open at 7pm and performances will commence casually at 7:30pm. There will be drumming and singing workshops, full bar, raffle, loads of games and above all, music, love, life and unity of purpose.

Ibumba International Festival

Ibumba International Festival is the arts fiesta that celebrates life and culture and its diversity under the theme “One Bulawayo, One people, One festival”. The year 2009 marks the 12th edition of this multi-cultural and multi talented edition which will see Zimbabwe’s local artists and international visitors of all genres showcasing their unique talent.

Sabela Music Projects is proud to be associated with the continual growth of Ibumba International festival, which this year incorporates the 20th anniversary of the founding of our flagship act Siyaya Arts.

Ibumba International Festival seeks to create a viable arts industry through unique world class performance by upcoming and seasoned artists. Workshops and seminars will also be held on the sidelines of the festival where topics addressing the development and capacitating the artists shall be conducted and it is all happening in Makokoba, the oldest township with vibrant new ideas in the heart of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s cultural hub and second largest city, and it’s all in 16 days of solid fun, super performances, cultural exchange and sound business exchange.
